Blanc de Chine: The Art of Simplicity
By Kristen Irby, Fashion Editor, ASTONISH Magazine
Based on ‘ink and wash’ techniques, Blanc de Chine’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection, presented on the second floor of their Fifth Avenue boutique, seamlessly aligned the ancient Chinese art form with exquisite wears for both men and women. Gentle fabrics such as chiffon, lace, sequins and veil-thin cotton are transformed into elegant pieces for women that are at once striking and astonishing. Highlights of the women’s collection include the gleaming sequin purple Qi Pao evening gown, which clings to the body with a subtle seductiveness. The navy sequin Qi Pao with silk evening gown resembles the tail of an alluring mermaid with special attention reserved for the back of the garment where it ties into a flowing bow. The men’s collection takes great advantage of jersey and poly-crepe that lends to a translucent effect which reveals discreet parts of the man’s torso. The men’s maroon asymmetrical short sleeve jacket, cotton shirt and matching shorts scream resort chic without a sound uttered. The men’s sheer front pleat shirt with inside panel detailed with jewel print is a wonderful example of design for a man that easily combines beauty and masculinity for a sophisticated wear. As simple and elegant as this collection was there is a futuristic element here that breathes power, charm and undeniable strength.
